The course is aimed to play the flamenco guitar, depending on the interests.

The principle of the guitar is physic: our hands are not used to do this sort of combined movements. For this reason the teaching of this course is on a one to one basis, paying special attention to the personal improvements of each student. The insistence and the daily exercise are the only way to improve the technique.

In the lessons not only will you move your hands, but we also teach the subject of Musical Language, which is essential to read what we have to play. The tablature and Music Theory are the learning methods we use in class.

The lessons are divided intro three levels: elementary, intermediate and advance.

  • ELEMENTARY LEVEL

We learn to get a better knowledge of the basic guitar with the learning of easy exercises, first chords, musical scales, arpeggios, picaos, rasgueos, tremolos, etc. students also start with Musical Language, first with the system of cifrado simple, then with tablature  and finally, music theory. All these subjects are learnt in a progressive way and during the nine months of the course.

  • INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

This level is for students who know the flamenco guitar techniques and at least a system of musical reading . we continue with exercises for both hands and we introduce students in the world of harmony and flamenco rhythms of a wide variety and richness. At this level we also deal with the guitar for accompaniments for flamenco singing and dancing, where flamenco guitar plays an essential role.

  • ADVANCED LEVEL

At this level we work very hard at musical reading and composition as well as improvisation. At this stage, we discover what is guitar and its expression possibilities.

In all the levels the exercises are done in groups of three or four students. In this way lessons are more enjoyable and we play pieces with three or four guitars.

This year, San Pedro Alcántara courses have been improved with the introduction of harmony lessons.

Throughout the course other complementary activities are organised, such as lectures, concerts…Every year we have a final concert with the most advanced students who want to take part voluntarily.
